Recommended things to do

Although Molokai is very quiet and relaxing, there are plenty of things to keep you busy if you are interested. Below is a list and contact information. I will try to add and update as I get new information.

  • Captain T. Charters - Are you looking for some Deep-Sea-Fishing, Whale Watching, Snorkeling, a leisurely tour of the Worlds Highest Sea Cliffs or a Sunset Cruise. Contact Captain Tim and he will take care of you.

Kalaupapa Tour - There are several ways to see Kalaupapa and several are listed below. You must have a permit (even to be on the trail), which these companies can provide. Also, you must be at least 16 years old to go on the tour. The trail to Kalaupapa is closed for the indefinite future. A large boulder took out the main bridge in Dec 2018 and it will take quite a while to build a new one and install it.  There is no Mule ride or hiking until the bridge is repaired.

  • Molokai Mule Ride - There is a rumor that this has been shut down, but it is false. They no longer operate out of their building, so you just meet them at the trailhead. Trail is closed due to damage to a main bridge.

  • Father Damien Tours Hawaii - With this tour you have the option of hiking or flying or a combination of both. No hiking due to damaged bridge

  • Damien Tours LLC - This tour is run by Gloria, a former patient who resides on Kalaupapa. She only issues permits for hiking. No hiking due to damaged bridge.

  • Halawa Valley Fall Cultural Hike - Although we have yet to take this tour, many of our guest have and say it is great. It is on private property, so you must go with a tour ($60 per person).

  • The Nature Conservancy - Beautiful hike through the Rain Forrest on 6" wide planks. You can go with the Conservancy if you are here during the  one day a month they take people up, or you can go on your own if you have a 4wd. If you do not have a 4wd with a lot of clearance, you will have to park at the lookout and and walk the 2 miles to the trail head. You will still need a 4wd to drive to the lookout.

  • Kaupoa (Tentalow Ruins) - A fun, easy hike to the old Sheraton Tentalow site. You access the trailhead from Dixie Maru Beach and it is a pretty easy path that is less than a mile and a half.
